Timber Frame Presentation Day

Timber Frame Presentation Day

On Friday 9th October 2009, Flight Timber Products Ltd launched its first major presentation on timber frame design and technology at its office in Earls Colne to a group of 30 Architects from 16 different practices across the region.

The delegates were introduced to Flight Timber Products by Gary Kent, co-owner/director, who gave a short presentation about the company and its history.  He explained how Flight Timber using their innovative inhouse design and manufacturing techniques could help them with all aspects of timber frame, roof truss, floor truss, bespoke structures and SIPS design structures (Structural Insulated Panels).   The group was then split into smaller groups and were given guided tours of the factory.

With the tours completed, Martin Milner of CCB Evolution addressed the group explaining how in conjunction with Flight Timber Products, they are able to offer specialist engineering services to the timber frame industry.

Paul Kemkaran-Thompson of BREEAM BREEAM Environmental Assessment
Method) was next to speak, explaining that BREEAM is the most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings, as  it sets the standard for best practise in sustainable design has become the de facto measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance. Using just a simple scoring method they are able to ascertain a building’s environmental impact.

Our final talk was from Peter Keogh of SIPS eco panels. Peter spoke about the distinct advantages of using SIPS panels, such as reduced environmental damage, faster build times, reduced foundation costs and extra warm rooms due to the insulation of their panels, to name but a few!
